General Library Information

The CIT Library situated on the 4th floor, provides access to a large book collection, and several thousand full-text electronic journal subscriptions.

The CIT library serve primarily to university members and then to the community. The collections support all programs taught at the university by housing a number of collections in various formats to suit all needs. Reference materials, on line electronic databases, journals, library management and system have been dedicated to ensure an efficient and supportive learning environment to all.

The library collections are of sufficient size and quality to ensure effectiveness in the instructional programs of the university.

All students are strongly advised to return borrowed items before the date due. To help you get borrowed items back on time, reminders are sent by e-mail. Library loans can be renewed by coming to the library front desk.

Mission Statement of CIT Library

CIT libraries strive to develop independent and lifelong learners by:

  • Provide a positive, user-oriented learning environment
  • Acquiring , developing, and providing access to learning resources;
  • Assisting students to develop the skills required to succeed in a knowledge- based society;
  • Collaborating with faculty to create and deliver innovative learning opportunities;

The collections to be developed and maintained by the libraries will serve the following purposes:

  • Instructional support for students, faculty members and teaching staff;
  • Professional and operational support for staff and the university;
  • Support for lifelong learning for students, faculty members and teaching staff and community users.

The library collections aim to fulfill the following objectives:

  • Support all courses and programs offered at the university by providing varied and relevant materials in a variety of formats (electronic, printed, audio/video, etc.);
  • Provide adequate resources to assist faculty members and teaching staff in their teaching functions;
  • Develop core collection of materials to support program delivery in the two campuses;
  • Provide general interest material for the overall enrichment of the university community;
  • Develop reference collections that allow libraries to provide information services in support of the university instruction and operations;
  • Provide career and continuing education resources in support of the continuing education programs;
  • Maintain copies of required textbooks for all courses, supplementary teaching materials and curriculum documents;
  • Support research requirement of the various faculties in conjunction with the programs offered at the university;
  • Develop and maintain archival materials in addition to materials documenting the development of CIT;

McGraw-Hill Education is a leading digital learning company. McGraw-Hill Education (MHE) is an American learning science company and one of the “big three” educational publishers that provides customized educational content, software, and services.

Based on the growing demand for COST EFFECTIVE LITERATURE, and REDUCTION OF STORAGE SPACE, CIT has transitioned from a print-based business model to one based on using digital content and technology-enabled learning solutions. This was done in 2016, by signing an agreement with McGraw-Hill Education (MHE).

This agreement complement the entire spectrum of courses currently being taught throughout CIT and has many advantages as listed below:

  • Each student enrolled will have access to the latest available editions, of a package of 10 e-books for a very low price.
  • Free Online Learning Center (OLC) access to faculty (includes PowerPoint presentations, solution manuals, test banks, instructor resources etc…) for all the chosen and relevant e-books to the subject(s).
  • Professors have the ability to update the e-Book library yearly for replacement titles, newer editions etc.
  • Instructors have the right of a free copy of the e-book.
  • Interactive teaching by sharing notes, comments and more between instructors and students
  • Free training for faculty and students upon agreement.
  • Customized texts can be entered in the library, containing chapters from several MGH texts and even your own notes in any given language. (to help communication with students)

Library Policies

Library Loan Policy


  • Library books are loaned for three weeks (except textbooks).
  • Textbooks are loaned for one day ONLY
  • Library patrons are responsible for all materials checked out to them.
  • The library warns patrons not to loan items you have borrowed to another person. If the item is lost or returned late, you will be responsible for all fines and replacement fees.

Overdue notices

Borrowed materials must be returned or renewed by the due date. If not, the borrowers will be notified in the manner outlined below.


  • Students who fail to return or renew borrowed materials by the due date will be notified via email.
  • After a maximum of two notices the director of the library will contact the by phone requesting positive action.
  • If the material is not returned or renewed within a week of the second notice, the library addresses the issue to “Administration office” to take the necessary actions.
  • After the 2nd overdue notice, the patron will be blacklisted.


Faculty members and teaching staff

  • Overdue notices will be mailed every week to faculty and staff for materials that are not returned or renewed by the due date.
  • A maximum of two overdue notices will be sent after which the director of the library will contact the defaulter.
  • After the 2nd overdue notice, the patron will be blacklisted.
  • The patron loses his/her borrowing privileges until he/she returns, renews or pays for the lost material

Computer Laboratories

Computing and Technology

At CIT we always try to keep the pace with the latest developments of science and technology. This is achieved not only by investing to get the latest and the best hardware equipment, but also by trying to install and maintain the latest systems and applications.

This requires to be constantly learning new things and trying to apply them on our systems. It is not easy, in fact it is challenging, but we are not afraid of accepting challenges.


CIT has two Computer Labs on the 4-th floor and two Computer Labs in 3-rd floor, that can be used for teaching and for homeworks. Each of them has 17 and 29 (third floor lab) powerful computers with at least 4GB – 8GB RAM and 500GB – 1TeraGB disk drives, running the latest version of Edubuntu (Linux) and Windows 7, 8 (Lab 4) which are licensed.

There are six All-in-One HP computers on the Library, which can be used by the staff and the students to browse the Internet, to write and print documents, etc.

On the server room there is a powerful server of 32GB RAM and 6.6TB storage, that is used to supply and support all the services needed by the university (the website, user accounts, file sharing, DHCP/DNS services, etc.)


CIT has a dedicated Internet connection of 3Gbps download and 10Gbps upload speed. All the computers and IT devices are connected to the Internet and to each-other through a LAN (Local Area Network), either through cables or through wireless connections. There are 7 WiFi routers on the building that ensure wireless network coverage on all the premises of the university. The wireless connection is

open to all the staff, students and visitors of the university (so that they can use their own notebook, tablet or smart-phone device to access the Internet).


Each staff and student is provided with an email account on the domain of the university (cit.edu.al), that can be used to facilitate the communication and coordination. The email accounts of CIT are actually provided by GoogleApps, so they come with lots of additional services as well (like calendar, documents, chatting, etc.)

Each student or staff has his own account on the systems of the university, and can login to it from any of the computers on the CIT network, using his own username and password. In the future, remote access will be provided as well, so that the students and staff can access their accounts even from home, (through Virtual Private Network (VPN), secure shell (ssh), VNC, etc.) We are also planning to install applications and services like Moodle, OpenScholar, eduCommons, etc. which can improve the communication and learning/teaching experience of the students and the staff.

Physics Laboratory

The CIT Physics laboratory provides to students and staff that are primarily interested in physics, mechanics, material science, electronics, experimental research, etc.: space, equipment, tools and materials, accompanied with technical support offered by engineering staff. Experimental demonstrations, testing, and simulations in kinematics, dynamics, fluids, electric circuits, etc. are carried out in this lab.

Chemistry Laboratory

Chemistry Laboratory is focused on giving students the necessary knowledge in the field, in accordance with the theoretical program.

It is well equipped with necessary instrument which allow students to carry on experiments like purification and separation methods by using distillation, crystallization, extraction etc.

It also includes some aspects of environment issues, like water purification, and also natural product isolation.

Health and Safety Office

Healthcare Office

Canadian Institute of Technology offers Health care service for all CIT students and staff. The Health care Office is located in the forth floor.
Services offered are:
a) Health care for staff and students;
b) Health promotion;
c) Hygienic-sanitary control;
d) Mental health consultancy.

About Safety Office

The Safety Office serves as a Health, Safety and Environment resource to assist members of the institution community in meeting their obligations to provide a safe, healthy work and educational environment.

Emergency Procedures

Understanding the main issues of emergency situation is very important for each member (student, administrative staff and academic staff) of Canadian Institute of Technology.Each member of CIT should know whom and how to contact in a case of emergency.The Safety Office administers university-wide emergency programs such as fire and large scale spills of hazardous materials. Information on university-wide procedures is presented here in this section of the Safety Office website.

Individual faculties/departments and shops/studios/laboratories must also have their own emergency procedures in place that are specific to their work/study areas and ensure that CIT employees and students know and understand these procedures.

Healthy and Safety Office Policies

Policies of Healthy and Safety Committee:

  • The committee is not responsible on Health and Safety at work. It only inspects workplaces, signals anomalies and insufficiency, and offers recommendations.
  • Meets at list once each term.
  • Recognizes workplace hazards.
  • Evaluates the risk of accidents/incidents, injuries and illness.
  • Participates in development and implementation of programs to protect the employees’ safety and health.
  • Responds to employee complaints and suggestions concerning safety and health.
  • Monitors and follows-up hazard reports and recommend action.
  • Participate in safety and health inquiries and investigations, as appropriate.
  • Consults with professional and technical experts.
  • Makes recommendations to management for accident prevention and safety program activities.
