About the President – Prof. Dr. Ramiz Zekaj
Prof. Dr. Ramiz Zekaj is a highly influential figure in the fields of education, culture, and the history of civilization. His academic background and intellectual contributions place him among the scholars and thinkers who have played a key role in the development of academic institutions and the promotion of cultural and interfaith dialogue, both in Albania and beyond.
His academic journey began with primary education in his hometown, followed by secondary studies at the Gymnasium of Peja. In 1982, he joined the “Alauddin” school in Pristina, where he graduated with outstanding results.
His passion for advanced studies led him to the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Pristina, where he pursued a degree in Oriental Studies. Seeking to expand his academic horizons, he continued his education at the Faculty of Jurisprudence at the University of Medina, from which he graduated in 1992. His postgraduate education continued at the University of Tirana (1993-1995), specializing in Balkan and Albanian history.
His scientific contributions were crowned in 1997 when the Academy of Sciences of Albania awarded him the title of “Doctor of Science in History.” His relentless academic pursuit led him to receive the title of “Docent in Culture and Civilization” from the International University of Novi Pazar in 2010. In 2023, the same institution conferred upon him the prestigious academic title of “Professor.”
Prof. Zekaj was among the first intellectuals who, after the 1990s, actively engaged in rebuilding Albania’s educational and cultural institutions. He has made an outstanding contribution as the founder of several academic foundations and as the author of numerous books in various fields, including the history of civilization, linguistics, and literature.
With an active presence in the academic world, he has delivered lectures at universities and scientific centers in culturally and intellectually significant European cities such as Vienna, Granada, Novi Pazar, Sarajevo, and Zagreb. His publications have been recognized in national and international scientific journals, including those indexed in Scopus.
One of his most notable contributions has been the promotion of interfaith dialogue and the shaping of intellectual thought in Albania. For 22 years (1996-2018), he founded and led the AIITC Institute in Tirana, a key academic center for research and studies. From 2018 to 2023, he directed the Institute of Education, Heritage, and Tourism (IETT), where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board.
Prof. Zekaj continues to play an active role in the academic world as President of the Canadian Institute of Technology (CIT) in Tirana and as Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Univers.
His personality and contributions position him among the most influential thinkers, continuously guiding the academic and cultural trajectory of Albanian society on both national and international stages.
